Attacked at Sea: a true World War II story of a family’s fight for survival by Michael J. Tougias and Alison O’Leary
Middle grade readers seeking an adventure will not be disappointed in the book Attacked at Sea: A true World War II story of a family’s fight for Survival, which is a young reader’s version of the adult book So Close to Home by the same authors.
This World War II story—part of the True Rescue Series— tells the true story of a civilian family traveling on a civilian ship, which was struck in the Gulf of Mexico by a German U-Boat. Surprising elements of WWII were shared throughout the book; however, this book did not read like an ordinary history book. With the suspense of war, sinking ships, surprise torpedoes, and menacing sharks —it seemed more like an unbelievable fiction novel! This captivating story about a piece of history was hard to put down!
Fans of the I Survived series will appreciate this historical narrative, and fans of Hatchet might appreciate the fight for survival in this story.
