Jan 31, 2019 Food for Fines returns
Annual event set for Feb. 1 – 28
The Library is ready to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of Food for Fines February 1 – 28!
This annual fine amnesty program provides Library customers with the opportunity to erase overdue fines* while also benefiting the Zionsville Food Pantry.
Throughout the month of February, customers may donate 20 items or more to erase up to $20 per Library card. Each item donated will erase $1 in overdue fines owed to Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Recommended donations include non-perishable food and personal care supplies. All donations will benefit the Zionsville Food Pantry located at Zionsville Presbyterian Church.
All area residents are welcome to drop off donations for the food pantry at the Library’s Circulation Desks through February 28. “I’ve seen many patrons bring in donations, even with no fines to pay,” said Julie Bigler, Assistant Circulation Department Head. “We hope everyone will take advantage of this 28-day opportunity to donate to the local pantry and erase their overdue fines,” Bigler said.
The Library began working with the pantry eight years ago because it directly benefits the local community and neighbors in need. Donations collected during the Food for Fines event allow the pantry to prepare for the spring break holiday, when some children lose the benefit of school lunches.
