Apr 22, 2025 Read Stories by the Kids in HMMPL’s Creative Writing Club
The members of HMMPL’s Creative Writing Club recently released a collection of stories for the public to read. Their works are displayed in a binder in the Tween area of the Zionsville Branch Youth Department and are available now.
The thirteen 3rd- through 6th-grade authors gathered with their parents during a recent Creative Writing Club meeting. They read selections from their stories aloud and celebrated the conclusion of a four-month series that led participants through the entire writing process: idea generation, drafting, peer review, revision, and final story. To submit their writing for the collection, participants had to attend at least two of the four monthly meetings, complete a publishing checklist, and sign a publishing agreement. The same process will be repeated over the coming months so that the students can “publish” up to three stories each year.
The stories submitted cover a variety of genres, including fantasy, historical fiction, graphic novels, realistic fiction, and more. The stories are written with a Tween audience or above in mind.
To read stories in the spring collection, stop by the Youth Department at the Zionsville Branch. Also, students in grades 3rd through 6th grade who are interested in joining the Creative Writing Club can register for our next meeting on May 5 on the Library calendar. During that session, members will begin a new four-month cycle in preparation for releasing a fall story collection in August.
