Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Reviewed by Shelby Couch, Teen and Adult Services Librarian

Yadriel is a young transgender boy who’s biggest problem in the world right now is proving to his family that he can be a Brujo. While he and his cousin Maritza perform the necessary rituals and practices on their own, Yadriel finds himself in the middle of missing teens, an underhanded plot to destroy his family, and the ghost of a boy he summoned (who is entirely the wrong person) that he somehow can’t help falling in love with.

This story has such a unique blend of elements, from Latinx fantasy settings to LGBTQ+ characters you can’t help but fall in love with and root for. The best part of this book is how it opened my cache of reading repertoire to something new and different. I felt like learned a lot about other people and cultures from reading this book.

While it’s a great book to try any time of year, this would be a perfect Halloween read for mature Tweens, Teens, and Adults with an open mind and who are thirsty to read something they have never quite experienced before! Get it at the library in print or e-audio.
