STEM Discovery Kits: empowering young minds through hands-on learning

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new STEM Discovery Kits program at the Hussey Mayfield Memorial Public Library with the support of the IEEE Region 4 SKPL Science Kits for Public Libraries.

This exciting initiative is designed to spark curiosity and foster a love of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among our community, particularly young learners.

On May 19, the Whitestown Branch hosted an immersive STEM experience. Our 23 activity stations covered a range of topics including robotics, coding, 3D printing, life sciences, and engineering & design. Most of these stations were self-guided, allowing participants to explore at their own pace.

10 new circulating STEM Discovery Kits are already available for check-out. These kits, designed for use at home, include everything needed for a variety of STEM activities and projects. They can be checked out and returned to the Whitestown Branch.

The Benefits of STEM Education

STEM education is critical in today’s technology-driven world. By providing hands-on learning opportunities, our STEM Kits help develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. These activities also promote teamwork and perseverance, preparing our young learners for future academic and career success.

Our goal is to make STEM learning accessible and enjoyable for all ages. By engaging with these kits, children and teens can discover new interests and passions, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning and curiosity.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our sponsors, without whom this program would not be possible. Thank you to the IEEE Region 4 SKPL Science Kits for Public Libraries for supporting this incredible project!

Thank you to the HMMPL Library Foundation and Friends of the Library!

Your generous support has enabled us to bring these invaluable resources to our community.

Get Involved

If you are passionate about STEM and available to assist during events, we would love to have your support. Volunteers play a crucial role in making these activities successful and enriching for all participants. Whether you’re a budding scientist, an experienced engineer, or simply curious, there’s something for everyone.

Let’s inspire the next generation of thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers together.
