Teens Making a Difference

Looking for a fun and fulfilling way to give back?

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library partners with The Humane Society for Boone County to offer teens a unique volunteer experience – helping shelter animals in creative and meaningful ways! From building birdhouses to ease cats’ boredom to reading stories to shy animals to stuffing ornaments with treats as holiday gifts for our furry pals, our teen volunteers do it all.  On our last visit, we spread some love by making Valentine’s decorations for the dogs’ kennels, brightening their space while they wait for their forever homes. Each visit is a chance to make a real difference while having fun with fellow animal lovers, including your friendly neighborhood Teen Librarians.

This is just one of the many ways teens can get involved through the library!

Teen Council, which meets the first Wednesday of each month, helps shape teen programs and volunteer events. If you want to let us know what kind of programs or share any ideas you have, that’s the place to tell us! In fact, both our Zionsville and Whitestown Branches offer a variety of opportunities to give back, gain leadership experience, and make new friends.
