Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library breaks ground on new Whitestown Branch

Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library breaks ground on new Whitestown Branch

Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library officials were joined by local government representatives and community residents Tuesday, April 12 to break ground for construction of a new branch located at 6310 E. Albert S. White Blvd. in Whitestown.  The branch will be the library’s second location and is expected to be completed sometime next summer.

“This is an historic event,” said Worth Township Trustee Jim Baldwin. “Not only will it provide the obvious benefit of a brick-and-mortar library for our children and our children’s children, but it will also provide a place for people to meet, numerous programs for people of all ages and valuable resources for everyone in our community.”

The Worth Township Advisory Board voted to allow HMMPL to provide service to residents in August 2020, which expanded the library’s service area to include three townships, Eagle, Union, and Worth, which encompass both Whitestown and Zionsville.

HMMPL Board President Monty Korte noted the cooperation and support from leadership of both communities saying, “It is a wonderful feeling to know that this project is not only needed, but also wanted and supported on so many levels. This building will be a great example of our two communities working together to meet the needs of residents.”

Local residents joined Library staff and Board members, Whitestown and Zionsville Town Council members, Parks Department representatives and Worth Township Advisory Board members for the historical event. Once open, the HMMPL branch will offer services and programs for all Whitestown and Zionsville residents and visitors.

“The library worked hard to get this project in front of the community so we could incorporate their feedback throughout the design, said Sally Meyer of krM Architecture. “It has been exciting to see the special spirit of advocacy built around this project by all its participants up to this point. Everyone is looking forward to seeing that transferred over into construction.”

More information about the project can be found on the expansion tab at HMMPL.org.
