Library Names New Whitestown Branch Manager

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library Board of Trustees recently welcomed Ashtan Bennett as the branch manager for its second location, currently under construction in Whitestown, Indiana.

“The Board was impressed by Ashtan’s enthusiasm and experience in building relationships and creating community partnerships,” said Board President Molly Hanlon.

Bennett spent the first few weeks in her new role familiarizing herself with the construction progress, working at HMMPL’s Zionsville Branch, and scheduling meetings with local partners.

“I am eager to connect with residents in our community and to be a part of building this wonderful new resource,” Bennett said. “I look forward to meeting everyone during neighborhood Bookmobile visits and at community events like the Whitestown Easter Egg Hunt and the upcoming Zionsville Brick Street Market.”

Bennett was previously the program and marketing manager for the Anderson Public Library (APL), in Anderson, Indiana, where she oversaw the programming, outreach and marketing efforts of both the main library and the Lapel branch.  While at APL, Bennett was a valuable member of the senior management team and led the library’s programming and outreach teams. She also chaired the diversity, equity and inclusion committee. Prior to APL, Bennett served as the technical services librarian at Ivy Tech Community College in Muncie, Indiana.

Bennett holds a Master of Library Science degree with a specialization in academic librarianship from Indiana UniversityPurdue University Indianapolis, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology of human development from Ball State University.

HMMPL’s Whitestown Branch, located at 6310 E. Albert S. White Drive, is projected to open later this fall. It will feature many unique amenities such as a large public community room, MakerStudio and indoor/outdoor fireplace. The wooded walking trail currently open at the site will also be maintained for public use. More information about the new branch can be found on the branch construction page.
