Summer Reading Adventure at HMMPL

ends with great grand prizes!

It is an adventurous time at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library as summer readers record their hours of reading. during the final month of the program. What began as a fun opportunity to read and win during Summer Reading will end with new adventures for four fortunate grand prize winners. This year’s selection of grand prizes was made possible by the generosity of a diverse group of community partners, including eBoom Electric Bikes, Friends of the Library, Zionsville Rotary Club, and a community resident who wishes to remain anonymous.

Registration for new Summer Reading participants continues through the final day of the program, July 31, and is available online or in-person at any HMMPL branch. All ages are invited to participate. Readers who record 15 hours or more of reading completed between June 1 – July 31 will be automatically entered into the grand prize drawing.

Grand Prize Options include:
• An eBike – donated by eBoom Electric Bikes
• A kayak with paddles – donated by a local resident who wishes to remain anonymous
• A Coleman Evanston Screened Tent for 8 people – donated by the Zionsville Rotary Club
• A child’s bike – provided by the Friends of the Library

Donors

Lee Ann McKay, owner of eBoom Electric Bikes, generously donated the electric bike for the Summer Reading grand prize drawing. It is a sleek, black, low-step frame Navigator S model with brown faux leather grips. The Navigator S is made of strong, lightweight aluminum and can achieve a top speed of 25 mph with pedal assist, or 20 mph with throttle. It includes front and rear fenders, a rear rack, 48V/2A charger, kickstand, integrated front light, AAA battery operated rear light, and a bright bell. The wheel size is 26” with a maximum load capacity of 300 lbs. It is recommended for a rider who is 5 feet or taller. Drop by the library’s Zionsville Branch to see the bike on display in the Summer Reading prize market.

This is the second collaboration between the Library and eBoom Electric Bikes. In 2018, the Library worked with the fledgling company to design and create an electric Book Bike. McKay generously provided the bike to the Library at cost, which was funded by the HMMPL Foundation. The bike has been ridden by librarians to local schools and appeared in the Zionsville Fall Festival Parade.

Orange kayak inside library with stuffed animals insideOther Summer Reading grand prizes include an orange, 10-foot, Spitfire Sit-On-Top Kayak with paddle included. The kayak includes a hatch for easy storage beneath the deck, a flat bottom with deep hull channels for tracking performance and chine rails for stability. Plus, an adjustable seat back and multiple footrest positions to accommodate different sized paddlers.

Gratitude for this prize donation goes to a sports-minded community resident who wishes to remain anonymous.

A fall camping trip for the family may be in store for the winner of a prize donated by the Zionsville Rotary Club. The Coleman Evanston Screened Tent sleeps up to eight people and features a rainfly and screened in porch.

The winner of the youth bicycle grand prize will be able to select a bike fit for their size from a selection of available new bikes. This prize is generously funded by the Friends of the Library. This group of dedicated volunteers raises funds through book sales, Dine to Donate events, and the popular Secret Snowflake Shop event offered each December.
