Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History of Sales & Lending Discrimination Exhibit and Conversation

Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History of Sales & Lending Discrimination Exhibit and Conversation

From October 7 to November 1, the Zionsville Branch is hosting the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana’s “Unwelcomed” exhibit. This interactive exhibit educates visitors on the systemic barriers that have impacted today’s neighborhoods through redlining, racial covenants, steering, neighborhood intimidation, and other forms of housing discrimination. The panels walk visitors through the historical discrimination that took place in our housing markets, starting in the early 1900s, and progress through time to outline current modern-day forms of discrimination. The exhibit concludes by illustrating the detrimental impacts those discriminatory practices have had on health outcomes for people of color throughout the years.

For updated information and to learn more, please join Erika Fotsch from the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana as she discusses the exhibit as well as current developments.  She will be at the library Sunday, October 12, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. in the Hussey Room at the Zionsville branch. Registration is now open.

After you check out the exhibit, be sure to fill out our feedback form to let us know what you thought! Also, if you know of another place that may wish to host this exhibit, please reach out to our
