Youth Art Month at the Library

Youth Art Month at the Library

March is right around the corner, and at the Library, that means Youth Art Month!  During the entire month of March, art from all of the Zionsville Community Schools, elementary through high school, will be on display in both the Youth Services and the Teen and Adult Services departments.

Kicking off the month on Friday, March 1st from 5-8pm is an after-hours reception that is open to the public where you can be among the first to view the beautiful and creative handiwork of our local Zionsville students as curated by their ZCS art teachers.  After taking in the student art, make your way to the Adult Nonfiction section to listen to the McVeighs bring their Irish tunes to the Library!   From 6-8pm, the duo will play many traditional (and a few not-so-traditional) tunes using guitar, tin whistle, the bodhrán, and a washtub. (Registration is required; ages 10 and under must be accompanied by a parent.)

Youth Services will also feature programming each Saturday in March focused on a different type of art project:

  • March 2nd will focus on a collaborative art project put on by A Space to Create.  Kids in grades K-5 can drop in any time between 10am and noon to put their artistic spin on the collaboration.
  • March 9th is Jazzy Rocks at 11am where registrants in grades K-4 will use their own design skills and imagination to paint a special keepsake rock!
  • March 16th, the Library’s own Miss Laura will be guiding kiddos in the finger painting and thumbprint art at 11:30am.  Registration is required.
  • March 23rd at 10am, registered kids grades K-5 will join ZCS art instructors for 2 mini-lessons on painting and paper arts, using water colors and tempera painting techniques.
