You may have heard the Library talking about Temple Grandin and you might be wondering “who is that?” Simply put, Temple Grandin is an incredibly talented woman who has helped bring about lasting positive change for people with autism and challenged traditional gender roles in science.
Born in the late 1940’s, Temple Grandin was diagnosed with autism when she was only four years old. This was a time when autism was not widely known about, recognized, or accommodated for.
With help from her family and her awe-inspiring intelligence level (and cattle, too!), Temple went on to beat the odds as an inventor and professor! She has revolutionized the cattle industry and is a professor today at Colorado State University.
She is a true role model to students of all ages or anyone who feels like they do not belong. Thanks to HMMPL and the Zionsville Community Schools, you have a chance to see her speak virtually to our entire community!
The Library is hosting a series of programs leading up to a LIVE chat with Temple Grandin!
To kick off our 2021 Summer Reading Program “Tails and Tales,” Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library in partnership with the Zionsville Community Schools will be offering a virtual live talk and chat with Temple Grandin on May 17th at 1pm. Anyone in the community is able to view it live at that time or see the recording at a later time. We are also offering virtual and hands on programs for all ages leading up to the main event.
