Diamond Jubilee Book Ball

Diamond Jubilee Book Ball

Enjoy a Fun Evening at the Library

The Library will be closed Sat., Aug. 20, 2022, to prepare for the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (HMMPL) Foundation Diamond Jubilee Book Ball.

The Foundation event, which will be at 7-11 PM that night, will celebrate 60 years of giving to HMMPL and features live music by Greta Speaks, games throughout the Library and a live auction by Auctioneer Sue Wickliff. Items for bid include Colts’ sideline tickets with VIP parking, a week-long stay at a Seaside, Fla., condo, a specially commissioned David Seward painting, a Night in Italy dinner for 8 with paired wines from the Wine Guy, an opportunity for your child to record the Library’s daily closing message and an opportunity to sing with the band during the event. All proceeds will benefit the Library.

Food from Sweet & Savory catering and Library-themed cocktails also will be served. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased online at the Foundation’s website.

This year marks 60 years since the first Book Ball fundraiser was hosted by Psi Lota Xi to benefit HMMPL. The Book Ball first debuted in 1962, correlating with the opening of HMMPL’s Hawthorne Street location in Zionsville, where the Library operated from 1962-1994. In 1998, the formalized 501c3 Foundation was formed with the specific purpose to support HMMPL and its cardholders.

To date, the Foundation has surpassed $1 million in grants to HMMPL and continues to donate thousands of dollars each year to support technical, logistical and outreach initiatives. Past projects funded by the Foundation include WiFi capability and upgrades, Library catalog stations, the Bookmobile, the mobile outreach station, upgraded self-checkout stations, convenient drop box book returns, an outdoor sensory garden, new sensory experience bags for children and many other great library programs and services.

While the Library is closed, patrons can continue to use our Digital Branch to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music and more. Our Digital Branch also gives Library cardholders access to many other streaming and downloadable services available 24/7 from a mobile device or computer.
