Heroes Tree and Donation Drive

Everyone has their ideal window regarding when holiday trees should be displayed.  Early November may not fit everyone’s timeline, but a lone white tree that has been displayed in the Library serves a special purpose.  The Heroes Tree is a tree filled with handmade ornaments and has served as a collection site for Epsilon Sigma Alpha’s Winter Warm-Up collection drive for nearly 15 years.  Anyone interested in helping keep a homeless or at-risk veteran warm can purchase and donate new jeans, boxer shorts (sizes large to 2XL), black and white crew socks, work gloves and heavy gloves, athletic shoes (sizes 10-13), hats, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, shaving supplies, or travel sized lotion.   The tree is located near the reference desk on the second floor.  Anyone wishing to honor a veteran or former military personnel is welcome to bring their own ornament or use items provided to create their own.  Ornaments will be stored and saved for the following year.
