Aug 25, 2026 Live Performing Arts Come to HMMPL Thanks to Indiana Arts Commission Grant
Families will have more opportunities to experience live music, theater, puppetry and other performing arts at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (HMMPL) in Zionsville thanks to a $4,000 grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
The grant was awarded through the Arts Project Support grant programs, part of more than $2.35 million in funding approved by the Indiana Arts Commission for 324 nonprofit and public entities throughout Indiana.
The funding will support a yearlong series of family-friendly performances at the Zionsville Branch, bringing professional artists and arts organizations directly to the Library. The series gives children and families the opportunity to experience a variety of performing arts close to home.
“Experiencing the arts can spark a child’s imagination in ways that stay with them long after a performance is over,” says Charity Craig, Youth Services Librarian at HMMPL. “This grant allows us to bring talented performers to the Library and make those experiences accessible to families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a live performance.”
The series includes:
The Indianapolis Opera will present its new children’s opera based on the classic tale of Pinocchio as part of its Sing Me a Story programming.
Roz Puppets will bring its new deliciously fun and comical adventure, Little Dog’s Spooky Bone Hunt.
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will perform The Big Note!, an adventure-filled story about a boy’s search through an orchestra for a special musical instrument.
Families can explore traditional American music through a live performance.
Violinist Cathy Morris will take families on a musical journey featuring sounds and styles from around the world.
Additional information, including performance times and registration details, will be available on the HMMPL events calendar at hmmpl.org.
ASL interpretation will be provided at all performances. Attendees who need additional accommodations or adjustments may contact YSRef@hmmpl.org at least two weeks before the performance.
Activities are made possible in part by Noblesville Creates and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana.
