A Very Punchable Face by Colin Jost

Reviewed by Miss Michelle, Youth Services Librarian

For those who aren’t familiar, Colin Jost is currently one of the head writers of Saturday Night Live and co-host of the show’s Weekend Update segment. In his autobiography, A Very Punchable Face, Colin Jost tells us all about the many times in his life that he’s been punched in the face. He starts out by discussing his childhood riding the subway to school, tenure at Harvard, and ill-fated study abroad trip in Russia. There’s also plenty of SNL stories to be had from both his time as a writer and as a cast member.

This is a very enjoyable read that flies by. While the book does include a section of photos, the audiobook was a treat. Since it’s read by Colin himself, the listener is able to hear his intended tone and timing with each joke.

Sometimes with celebrity autobiographies, you come out of the book disliking the subject for various reasons. However, with this book, you’ll probably end up liking Colin more in the end. A Very Punchable Face is a must-read for any avid SNL fan, but anyone who likes to read autobiographies will likely enjoy this one too.
