Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects individuals and families across all demographics. It can often leave survivors feeling isolated and unsure of where to turn for help. It’s essential to create safe spaces where individuals can find support and resources. Your local Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library strives to be one of those vital spaces.
Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, verbal, and financial abuse. Recognizing the signs is crucial for anyone who may be experiencing or witnessing abuse. Some signs include:
- Unexplained injuries or frequent visits to the doctor
- Withdrawal from social interactions or support networks
- Fearfulness or anxiety around a partner
- Partner’s control over finances or access to personal resources
- Apprehension or fear at using the Internet or phones for fear of tracking
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these behaviors, reaching out for help is an important step.

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library wants to support survivors in their journey. The following is a list of resources we compiled in an attempt to reach those who might need it. We also offer bookmarks with these resources if that is safer for you. Of course, leaving an unhealthy relationship isn’t simple nor is there a quick fix. However, these resources may help you gain your footing as you navigate your situation.
Note: You can use the public computers on the second floor without a library card, and you can speak to the Reference Desk about using the library’s phone if you need to call a hotline and your personal phone is potentially being tracked.
