HMMPL’s Seed Library Opening April 1

HMMPL’s Seed Library Opening April 1

April 1 marks the opening of HMMPL’s Seed Library!  Thanks to collaborations and donations of time, talent and TLC, the Seed Library has sprouted much new growth in its second year.  The Seed Library is a great way to try out new plant varieties, brush up on your gardening skills, or simply help you get started on your seed growing journey without the cost of purchasing seeds yourself. How does the Seed Library work?   Running from April through September, anyone can drop by the 2nd floor of the Library in the Teen and Adult area and select up to 20 seed packets to take home, for free!  We will be offering nearly 100 different varieties of seeds to choose from this year, including vegetables, herbs, flowers and even special flower mixes created to attract butterflies to your garden!

For the 2022 growing season, we have seed donations from the Boone County Master Gardeners, Zionsville Nature Center, True Leaf Market, Park Seed, Sow True Seed, Baker Creek Seeds, Bentley Seeds, American Meadows, and Gurney’s.  We also have donations from local seed savers and gardeners who took extra time and effort to gather seeds from their gardens last season.

One exciting change was moving to more sustainable packaging this year made possible through a grant from the Library Foundation!  This means every seed packet taken will come in recyclable paper envelopes.  Moving to this type of packaging also allowed us to create new, easy to read labels to help you in your garden planting endeavor.

What are you waiting for?  Come grow with us! 🌱
