In Focus: World Languages Collection

What is the World Languages collection at HMMPL?

The Library provides two sided digital and physical resources for all ages as part of our World Languages collection.  Some resources will help patrons learn a foreign language, such as Spanish/English dictionaries, or simple grammar and vocabulary.  Others are novels and other materials published in languages other than English.  These can help with learning a language or provide a piece of home for patrons whose first language is not English.

To learn a foreign language, the Library provides access to Rosetta Stone (under digital library, Inspire) and Mango Languages (including American Sign Language).  Hoopla also has eBook and audiobook selections to learn a language. As part of our physical collection, we provide language assistance for learning the following languages:

Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Chinese, Croatian, Egyptian, French, German, Greek, Haitian-Creole, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Ukrainian, Yiddish

To find books published in languages other than English, Libby has digital eBooks and audiobooks in many languages.  Our physical collection contains materials published in the following languages:

Chinese, French, German, Haitian-Creole, Korean, Latin, Japanese, Russian, Spanish.

Please also check out our Read-Alouds published in languages other than English:

Chinese, French, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Arab, German, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and Urdu.
