Lit List for Young Readers: Young Hoosier Book Award Picture Book Nominees

YOUNG HOOSIER BOOK AWARD NOMINEES FOR ELEMENTARY GRADES

curated by Miss Andrea, Youth Services Librarian

Welcome to this week’s installment of our blog series, Lit Lists for Young Readers, where your Youth Librarians cultivate some fresh reads for your kiddos to dig in to! These brief lists highlight a variety of topics with titles available through our online Evergreen catalog. Click the link and you’ll be able to place a hold on the titles right away with your Library card. Check out one or all of them!

The list this week comes from the Indiana Library Foundation (ILF) and its picture book nominees for the Young Hoosier Book Award (YHBA) Program for 2020-2021. Check out the nominees for the YHBA Picture Book Nominees.

The goal of the YHBA program is “to stimulate self-selected reading” among younger and upper elementary and middle grade students. Anyone can nominate a book, although there are stipulations as to what books are eligible for the program. Students from any school or public library in Indiana can participate in voting from the nominees for an overall winner. Winners are announced in late summer.  Last year’s picture book winner (2019 – 2020) was Drew Daywalt’s The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors!

Find out how you can participate at the ILF website.
