Staff Introductions: Laura Gangstad, MakerStudio Specialist

Get to know the HMMPL staff! Each week, we’re featuring one of our amazing staff members. This week, meet Laura Gangstad, our MakerStudio specialist. Here are a few fun facts about her.

Hobbies: Gardening, shepherding “pet” sheep, hiking in parks, “the process” of crafting new things.

Favorite Book Genre: nonfiction or historical fiction

Favorite Movie: Favorite movie – Sound of Music with Julie Andrews. The lyrics of the music, message of faith, courage, and family continues to bring more meaning as I watched as a child to now adult. Julie Andrews just sings so beautifully, especially when she projects herself on the mountain top!  I actually went to university with one of the Von Trapp’s grandchildren in Vermont, which was their home after leaving Austria. This is a real story and fun to have a connection.

Years at HMMPL: 24+

Favorite part of working at the Library: I have many favorite parts of working at the Library. Over the years I have been able to get to know many people locally and from all over the world. Watching children grow up and making friends with staff and our community during this stage in their lives has blessed me and taught me great lessons. Currently, the MakerStudio is my “happy place.” I am challenged to learn new technology and problem solve projects with people using the new equipment. I also am amazed at the creative ideas and generous gifts that are produced. I do love to learn new things by planning programs, and I’m excited about the opportunities at the new Whitestown Branch for our community.

Favorite Snack: chips and salsa or veggie tray

Where will patrons find you at the Library: MakerStudio, where I help people with embroidery, 3D printing, sublimating personalized mugs, simple sewing projects, and more with the opportunity to plan various STEM projects/programs for youth, teen and adults.
