Staff Introductions: Patricia VanArsdale, Collection Development Librarian

Get to know the HMMPL staff! Each week, we’re featuring one of our amazing staff members. This week, meet Patricia VanArsdale, a Collection Development Librarian in the Technical Services Department. Here are a few fun facts about her.

Hobbies: Knitting, Sewing, Reading, Learning, Anything Crafty

Favorite Book Genre: Teen Fiction

Favorite Movie/Song/Video Game: Tetris! When I was in grade school, our family played Tetris, and the person with the lowest score had to wash dishes. This is a skill that has served me well. I can pack a car or suitcase like no one’s business. I’ve not played it since, but I believe that experience is my origin story leading me to my husband calling me an organizing genius.

Years at HMMPL: 14

Favorite part of working at the Library: The people! The people who walk in the doors have always been polite and so happy to be able to use such a beautiful space with great opportunities to learn new things and take part in such amazing programs and innovative offerings. Plus, there are some pretty fantastic staff here who are like my second family. I am beyond lucky to have them (and you) in my life.

Favorite Snack: Dried Mango, Dark Chocolate, Coffee

Where will patrons find you at the Library: Most likely I am checking the mail on the first floor (it’s a weird thing I like to do, it brings me great joy for a reason I cannot explain, right along with shoveling snow which I don’t understand because I don’t care for the cold on windy days) or examining materials on the second floor, but I tend to be all over the place.
