Aug 04, 2022 Dive Into Reading: 2022 Summer Reading Program Recap
Our Dive Into Reading 2022 Summer Reading Program was a great success! More than 3,800 people signed up, with 2,474 participants (70%) recording 65,117 hours of reading. We blew our goal of 40,000 hours out of the water (pun intended). A whopping 1,406 readers reached the individual goal of 15 hours of reading.
Readers also earned points in the Summer Reading Program by posting more than 800 book reviews and completing more than 2,500 activities in Beanstack.
All that reading meant we gave away almost 10,000 prizes to adults, teens and youth in the Prize Market. We saw hundreds of happy children and adults walk away with piles of free (many donated) books and small prizes. Our staff and Extreme Teen Volunteers worked tirelessly during 212 open hours to ensure everyone who earned a prize had a chance to get theirs.
One parent shared that requiring two hours or more of reading each week to earn a trip to the Prize Market was a challenge! They said it was difficult to remember to record the minutes, not to mention actually doing the reading itself. But that same parent also said it really did inspire their reluctant reader to read more often.
Some readers chose not to pick up their physical prizes and instead just entered tickets into our virtual raffle drawings. More than 40,000 virtual tickets were entered this summer. All of our raffle drawing winners for both June and July have been notified. You can see a list of winners on the 2022 Summer Reading: Dive into Reading Overview tab in Beanstack. (Sign in to your Beanstack account (https://zionsvillelibrary.beanstack.org/reader365), select Challenges from the menu, then select Past Challenges, and finally, select Dive into Reading. The winners are listed in the description on the Overview page.)
Of course our Summer Reading Program also included lots of fun activities and events throughout the summer, including our Kick-Off Party, a Seahorse Show, ocean-themed arts and crafts classes, Shark Week activities, a Foam Beach Party and more.
