Teen Life Skills Series

Teen Life Skills Series

There are certain skills that every young adult should know, and we are here to help make sure that you do.

The Zionsville Branch of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will be hosting a series of 4 workshops for high school juniors and seniors to help with these basic tasks.

The events will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month from January – April starting at 6 PM.

January 22 – Basic Finance (Hussey Room)

We will be joined by Matt Chamberlin, Branch Manager of Star Bank in Zionsville, where he will discuss the basics of creating a budget, credit, and other basic finance needs.

February 26 – Basic Cooking (Hussey Room)

Every adult should know how to put a basic meal on the table.  Learn basic cutting and measuring techniques.  Participants will make a quesadilla and a yogurt dip.  Please notify us of any food allergies prior to the event.

March 26 – Basic Sewing (Conference Hub)

Another skill that is essential is basic hand sewing.  In this workshop, participants will learn to sew a simple hem, sew on a button, and do a basic small mend.  Why throw away something when five minutes, a needle, and thread, can make it like new again?

April 23- Learn how to advocate for yourself (Hussey Room)

One of the biggest challenges of being a young adult is learning to advocate for yourself with other adults in power, such as landlords, insurance companies, medical professionals, and even roommates.  Participants will work through different scenarios to help learn techniques to effectively advocate for what they need, and how to find resources to assist them when their efforts fail.

Registration is requested as seats are limited, especially for the hands on sessions.

We hope you will join us for one or all of the workshops!
