Bringing Joy, Connection & Community to Life

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library is participating in a contest to win free tickets for staff to the August 23 Boone County Bites event courtesy of Deep End Talent Strategies. This contest is for nonprofit clients only and the winner will be the organization that receives the most votes through this link (Coming soon!). We would love to send our staff to this event and let them celebrate their hard work and the positive impact they have on the community, but we need your vote!

Why should you vote for the library staff? Well, here is a little bit about us, our mission, and one story out of many that occur each day about how we connect with the individuals we serve.

The Hussey-Mayfield Library isn’t just a place to check out your next favorite book — it’s a vibrant hub of heart, learning, and human connection. With a mission driven by a community-focused plan to communicate, collaborate, connect, welcome and enhance services to meet emerging needs, the library and our extraordinary staff prove that HMMPL is about much more than books and shelves.

Let’s start with a story that perfectly captures this spirit. Lauren, one of our amazing Outreach librarians, was recently invited to do a special homebound storytime for a longtime patron who was in hospice care. This patron had worked side by side with Lauren in the past, picking out stories for their assisted living community’s story hour. She was a huge fan of Lauren’s storytelling charm.

So, when the time came for one last storytime, Lauren showed up — book in hand, heart wide open. The patron’s daughter said she was overwhelmed with gratitude, touched by how the library brings so much joy and care to its patrons. Lauren was honored to be part of such a meaningful moment. That’s the kind of service that doesn’t just meet needs — it meets souls.

This is what happens when you truly listen to the community and respond, not just with words, but with actions. Hussey-Mayfield connects with residents at every stage of life —from toddlers attending their first storytime, or new parents making connections, teens looking for fun activities, to seniors discovering new worlds through audiobooks or heartfelt visits like Lauren’s.

And let’s talk innovation. From 3D printers, laser cutters, and STEM kits to bookmobile visits and cozy reading corners, the library is always dreaming big to serve in fun, fresh ways. No two days are the same — and that’s by design. It’s also when our staff shine!

Hussey-Mayfield is more than a library. It’s a place where joy is shared, connections are made, and everyone — from curious kids to lifelong readers — is warmly welcomed. Our staff is grateful for the community’s support! We are ready to welcome and serve you at the library!
