REUSE Heart & Sole Sets New Record at the Library

REUSE Heart & Sole Sets New Record at the Library

The 2020 REUSE Heart & Sole Annual Shoe Collection, sponsored by the Boone County Solid Waste Management District, is in the books and the results are record-setting for our Library’s collection location!

You may have had a clue about this if you’re a regular visitor to the Library and saw the bags and boxes of shoes left at our two overflowing donation sites in the Library.

We started out slow, but the donations really came through in the final week of the February 3 – 18 campaign!

Drum roll, please – you, the residents of Zionsville, donated 721 pairs of shoes to this year’s REUSE Heart & Sole Shoe Collection!  That is the third highest number donated at any site in Boone County, behind two schools!  THANK YOU!  And, it more than doubles the number of shoes donated at the Library in 2019.  This is the 8th year that BCSWMD has held this shoe collection drive and our Library collected just 32 pairs of shoes the first year in 2013.  This year, we had 12 large bags provided by BCSWMD and added 14 trash bags of various sizes, full of donated shoes, boots, slippers, flip flops, and sandals.  Shoes in reusable condition will be redistributed to those in need through the organization Changing Footprints, and shoes that are unusable will be recycled with Nike.

If you missed the deadline to donate in 2020, don’t worry!  Bring in your shoes anytime throughout 2020, and we will start collecting for next year’s drive!
