Safety and Maintenance of the Wooded Portion of the Library Site

In December, the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library team hired certified arborist Jud Scott to evaluate the health and safety of the woods located on the new Whitestown branch site. The report identified approximately 65 dead trees that pose a safety risk and should be removed. The document also listed the type and location of dominant and regenerating tree species and provided recommendations for future plantings that will help ensure the overall health of the woods.

“The wooded area is one of our favorite aspects of the site,” said Jamia Alexander-Ball, Whitestown Branch Manager. “It will provide a beautiful backdrop for the new building as well as numerous programming opportunities. However, before we think about all of the great possibilities for the area, we need to ensure that it is safe.”

Plans are underway to remove the dead trees on or around January 27, 2022, well before construction begins this spring.  The community is asked to please avoid area while the work is being completed.
